From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2A Olivia would do just about anything to rid herself of her wobbly front tooth. She tries biting into hard foods, coloring her tooth black, and covering it with black licorice in order to join the snooty Lost Tooth Club. She is excluded because she hasn’t lost a tooth yet and thus doesn’t qualify for the pudding parties or the camaraderie of the clubhouse next door. Johnson’s pastels are appealing and humorous (Olivia’s black-and-white dog is always by her side) and will undoubtedly appeal to recent or wanna-be baby-tooth losers. However, one has to wonder if Johnson might be sending the wrong message to kids by promoting exclusionary clubs. Patience is obviously not Olivia’s long suit and her literal stumble into maturity only facilitates a weird, lucky, temporarily happy ending.AJohn Sigwald, Unger Memorial Library, Plainview, TX
